PURPOSE:To enhance the operating efficiency of an electrostatic precipitator designed for application of a pulsed high voltage by providing a means to detect dust collection efficiency and a means to control a peak value of a pulsed high voltage. CONSTITUTION:A voltage Vc of a capacitor 6 applied to between an electric discharging electrode 8 and a dust collection electrode 9 is divided to be conducted to a voltage detection circuit 12. There, the divided voltage is compared to a set value Vo of a voltage setting device 13 for determination of the level, and its result is entered into a voltage command circuit 17. In the meantime, a dust concentration detection terminal 14 for detection of a dust volume contained in air which passes through an electrostatic precipitator is provided in an air passage. Dust collection efficiency is determined by a detection circuit 15 by a signal from the dust concentration detection terminal 14. After this, if the dust collection efficiency and a peak value of voltage between electrodes are below a set value, a voltage command circuit 18 increases the value of pulsed high voltage. If either the efficiency or peak value is above the set value, the voltage command circuit outputs a command to decrease the value of pulsed high voltage.
