PRODUCTION OF PREFORM FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To produce preform having a little core eccentricity and to contrive to improve in yield of preform production, by measuring eccentricity of core center based on a clad center and processing the clad part for correcting the amount of the core eccentricity. CONSTITUTION:Amount of divergence and direction of the divergence of the center of a core 11 of preform 10 for optical fiber from the center of an outer diameter, namely a clad center 13 of a clad 12 are measured and recorded. Depending upon the measurement and record, the preform is heated by using an oxyhydrogen flame by a processing burner 14 in the direction to reduce the core eccentricity. By this method, preform for optical fiber having a little core eccentricity can be produced and yield of preform production can be improved.
