PURPOSE:To readily obtain the titled glass having uniformity and large volume, easily providing laser glass, gas having high refractive index and low dispersion, glass for electronic materials, etc., by diffusing a silica porous material into a dopant containing a rare earth element, drying and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A sol solution consisting essentially of an alkyl silicate and silica fine particles is gelatinized and optionally heat-treated at >=70 deg.C to give a silica porous material. A nitric acid solution of a dopant containing a rare earth element (e.g. Ce) is impregnated and diffused into the silica porous material, dried, heated up to 1,230 deg.C while controlling atmosphere, subjected to pore closing treatment, then subjected to non-porous treatment and sintered at <=1,350 deg.C. |
