PURPOSE:To improve the formability and mechanical strength by using a high molecular material contg. specified repeating units. CONSTITUTION:A high molecular material contg. repeating units represented by formula I or II is used as an org. nonlinear optical material. In the formulae I, II, R is -(CH2)n- [(n) is an integer of >=2], a group having arylene group in the methylene chain or arylene group, L is a dye producing a nonlinear optical effect, Am is -NHCO- or -CONH- and each of (m) and (k) is an integer of 1-12. The org. nonlinear optical material has a significant third-order nonlinear optical effect, can be simply formed by coating or other method and may attain a response speed of picosecond or below, so the material can be utilized as the principal material of an optical device utilizing a third-order nonlinear optical effect, e.g., an optical integrated device for future optical communication such as an optical bistability device, an optical switch or an optical memory. |
