PURPOSE:To improve the quality and yield of a casting by forming a molten metal pool with a gate having a partition plate in part of a holding furnace and providing a gate part liner to a runner between a chamber and cavity. CONSTITUTION:The gate 3 is provided to the inside of the holding furnace 1 to form the molten metal pool 2 and the vertically movable partition plate 4 is disposed to the gate 3. The chamber 6 is provided to the molten metal pool 2 and the gate part liner 19 is installed to the runner 18 connected to the cavity 14. The partition plate 4 is opened and the molten metal is sucked up to a level NL into the chamber 6 by a vacuum pump 10. The partition plate 4 is then closed to shut the same from the holding furnace 1 and thereafter, the gate part liner 19 is opened and while the vacuum pressure is controlled by a regulating valve 9, the molten metal is poured into the cavity 14. The partition plate 4 is opened after the solidification of the casting to recover the molten metal in the runner 18. Since the flow of the molten metal is controlled regardless of the liquid level, the intrusion of impurities into the molten metal is obviated and the quality and yield of the product are improved.
