ARTICLE OF YARN, FIBER AND KNITTED FABRIC BASED ON POLYVINYL CHLORIDE

Yarns, fibres and textile articles based on atactic polyvinyl chloride exhibiting a minimum penetration time of at least 30 s under specified conditions and according to NF standard G 07-184 an area destroyed by the flame smaller than or equal to 30 cm<2>. They are obtained by chemical treatment with a strong base in an alcoholic medium or in an aqueous medium in the presence of a phase transfer agent at a temperature below the glass transition temperature, and by a crosslinking treatment by means of a metal salt, preferably zinc chloride and then by heat treatment at a temperature of between 140 and 180 DEG C for 3 to 8 minutes, under a controlled tension. The articles obtained have an excellent flame resistance while retaining good flexibility.
