RIBBON ROD FOR OIL WELL PUMPING SYSTEMS Disclosed is a ribbon rod for use in oil well tubing to raise and lower an oil well pump in a lower stratum of the tubing, and a method of making same. The rod comprises an elongated ribbon having a core formed from bundles of fibers saturated with a resin and thereafter subjected to pultrusion, the core after pultrusion having substaunchly flat, opposed side surfaces and relatively narrow end surfaces joining the side surfaces. The side surfaces are covered by at least one ply of woven fabric to impart transverse strength to the core and corner tows extend over the end surfaces and overlie portions of the woven fabric on the side surfaces to provide damage resistance to the ribbon as it is raised and lowered in the oil well tubing.
