PURPOSE:To improve the heavy-duty discharge characteristic and storage characteristic by adding a composite sulfide of thallium and iron to a positive electrode using cupric oxide as an active material. CONSTITUTION:A composite sulfide of thallium and iron is added to a positive electrode using cupric oxide as an active material. The addition of the composite sulfide of thallium and iron is preferably within a range of 5-30 wt.% with respect to the positive electrode. The composite sulfide of thallium and iron is indicated as TlxFeySz, preferably, TlFeS2, TlFe2S4 or Tl2FeS4 in particular. When cupric oxide and the composite sulfide of thallium and iron are concurrently used, a cell having no voltage drop at the start of a discharge and a relatively large discharge capacity can be obtained. Thallium generated by the composite sulfide of thallium and iron via the discharge is reacted with a lithium negative electrode to form a film on the surface of the negative electrode, thus the generation of a passive state film on the surface of the negative electrode caused by the moisture infiltrating into the cell during its storage can be prevented, and the rise of the internal resistance is suppressed. |
