PURPOSE:To minimize weight and size, reduce the effects of variations in shape and contrive favorable dimensional stability, by inserting resin pipes into bearing parts, and connecting the resultant assembly to a main body of a carriage in a body. CONSTITUTION:Projected parts 38 of a pair of pipes 37 are fixed in a metallic mold for a carriage, then a resin is poured into the mold through recessed parts between the projected parts 38 to mold a main body 35 of the carriage, a printing head mounting part 33 and guides 39. A guide rail 6 is passed through the pipes 37, and the carriage is reciprocated along the guide rail 6 at the time of recording. Bearing parts can be provided with a required strength. The amount of a material having excellent abrasion resistance and a size matching the strength can be minimized. Therefore, it is possible to prevent significant changes in shape or size of the carriage from being generated, even upon a temperature rise due to frictional heat between a bearing and a shaft, a rise in the temperature of a head, the ambient temperature or humidity or the like.
