PURPOSE:To obtain a well-aligned rule print pattern, by providing a means for setting a correction value for lateral directions on the basis of each printing mode, a means for displaying the printing mode and the correction value, a means for self-printing a rule pattern, and a means for storing the correction values on the basis of each printing mode. CONSTITUTION:When a correction value tor lateral directions is set through a console panel 1, a printing mode and the correction value are displayed at a display part 8 through the function of a controlling part 2. The operator can arbitrarily set the correction values on the basis of each printing mode while looking at the value displayed. When a rule alignment verifying self-printing operation is started by an operation on the console panel 1, a printing-controlling part 3 self-prints a rule pattern by using the set correction value. The operator repeats the above operations while looking at the result, thereby setting an optimum value for the lateral directions. Finally, the operator sends a correction value decision signal from the console panel 1, upon which the controlling part 2 writes the set correction value into an electrically erasable read nonvolatile memory 4. Thus, the operator can set the optimum correction value for the lateral directions according to each device and according to the position of the rule to be printed.
