PURPOSE:To improve S/N and to perform stable torque detection by providing a comparing and detecting means which detects selectively only the rotary torque of a magnetic metallic thin belt fixed to part of a torque transmission shaft. CONSTITUTION:A couple of magnetic metallic thin belts 21a and 12b are fixed to part of the outer periphery of the torque transmission shafts 11 mode of a ferromagnetic body rotated by a driving source. An oscillator 26 applies a sinusoidal wave current to exciting coils 14a and 14b provided to detection magnetic cores 13a and 13b to excite the magnetic metallic thin belts 12a and 12b in the peripheral direction of the torque transmission shaft 11. Whem torque is applied to the torque transmission shaft 11, the magnetic metallic thin belts 12a and 12b increases or decrease in magnetic permeability. The quantities of variation are converted into electric signals, which are inputted to a compara tor 19 through an amplifying circuit 18. An analog switch 20 is turned on and off with the output of the comparator 19. Only a signal required for torque detection is applied to a detecting circuit 21. Further, it is inputted to an averag ing arithmetic processor 23 through an A/D converter 22.
