PURPOSE:To obtain a display having the hysteresis width of the size at which a titled element can be stably driven and good contrast by providing a nylon film as a liquid crystal orienting material on a substrate in particular. CONSTITUTION:Nylon is used as the liquid crystal orienting material and the film contg. said orienting material is formed on the substrate. Application of the liquid crystal orienting film onto the substrate can be advantageously attained by an arbitrary technique. For example, the film may be formed by spin-coating a coating soln. of about 2-3% prepd. by dissolving the nylon into a suitable solvent at about 1,500-2,000rpm rotating speed or may be formed by vapor deposition of the nylon. The hysteresis width created by a voltage versus light transmittance curve can be thereby taken large and, therefore, the large-area liquid crystal display using the phase transfer type liquid crystal is made stably with the good contrast. |
