PURPOSE:To obtain a detector with good linearity by performing calculating operation based upon specific equations indicating the relation between sampled values and pulse positions of an input signal by utilizing the exponential characteristic of the amplitude of the input signal. CONSTITUTION:The outputs x1-x3 of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd sample holding circuits 1a-1c which sample and hold the input signal with pulse width T are inputted to a computing element 3a to obtain an output Z1 expressed by a equation I. Further, the outputs x2-x4 of 2nd, 3rd and 4th sample-and-hold circuits 1b-1d are inputted to a computing element 3b to compute an output Z2 expressed by an equation II. Then the outputs Z1 and Z2 are inputted to a maximum detecting circuit 4 to send out a larger output between the outputs Z1 and Z2, thereby obtaining the detecting circuit with good linearity.
