PURPOSE:To cope with the display of a TV signal sent by plural TV systems where the number of horizontal scanning lines of one field differs by providing a thinning-out means for thinning out the horizontal scanning lines of one field at each prescribed number of lines. CONSTITUTION:An odd field signals and even field signals in the TV signals are thinned out alternately at each 5H by a Y driver 27 respectively, and even if a liquid crystal panel 23 whose vertical picture element number is set to 220 in nearly correspondence to the horizontal scanning number of the TV signals of a NTSC system, the TV signals of a PAL system having a horizontal scanning the line number of 255 per field are displayed in an overscan rate of 12%.
