PURPOSE:To execute communication by using a proper terminal equipment by identifying whether an opposite station on reply in a communication equipment or a person in case of automatic call and selecting proper communication method accordingly thereby avoiding the useless line connection in response to the calling terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 36 connects a telephone line 2a to a first telephone set 4. Whether or not a call is selected is detected by a facsimile equipment. A call circuit 32 is used to generate a dial signal and to call an opposite station. An initial identification signal from the opposite station is detected via a demodulator 22. The voice signal is detected by a voice recognition circuit 24. When the initial identification signal in the facsimile equipment is detected as a called station identification signal, a picture signal is subjected to transmission/post-procedure. Moreover, when the voice signal from an opposite station is sent, a command is given to telephone sets 4, 6, 8 via signal lines 36b-36d to ring all the bell circuits of telephone sets.
