A retaining wall is made from a plurality of building bricks 12A-E which are arranged in rows one on top of another and which are held together by pins. Each building brick 12A-E has a body which has an outer surface and rearwardly diverging side walls which are connected to a neck. A head 16A-E with outwardly directed ears is connected to the neck. The body has holes and pockets for pins 51 which fasten overlapping building bricks to one another. A finishing building brick, which has a plane surface, is used in the top layer of the wall. An earth-anchoring band with slits is arranged between the courses of building bricks and is fastened to the pins in order to stabilize the wall. <IMAGE>
