PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to accurately position two articles and to compare macroscopic change in hue by comparing the colors of two object articles with a color distribution formed according to the mutual relation between colors of areas to be compared. CONSTITUTION:A reference image pickup color TV camera 1 inputs an image of a reference article and outputs a red signal R, a green signal G, and a blue signal B. The signals R, G, and B are converted 3 into digital signals R', G', and B'. A color distribution generating circuit 4 generates a color distribution by calculating the mutual relation among the three primary colors in picture element units by using the digital signals R', G', and B', and outputs a reference color distribution signal (x). Then an image of the article to be compared is picked by a comparison object image pickup color TV camera 2, which outputs color signals (r), (g), and (b). The color signals (r), (g), and (b) are converted 3' into digital signals r', g' and b', which are inputted to a color distribution generating circuit 4' to calculate a color mutual distribution, so that a comparison object color distribution signal (y) is outputted. Then, the color distribution signals (x) and (y) are compared 5 and a comparison result (z) is outputted. |
