PURPOSE:To attain inexpensive communication system by switching plural kinds of predetermined communication speed corresponding to each terminal equipment, sending same control data and keeping the communication speed when the correct control data is received during the said connection thereby reducing the scale of line installation. CONSTITUTION:A speed is selected in a prescribed order among plural kinds of speeds defined in advance and the control data is sent to a LAN 3 at the speed via a line 11. Whether or not the correct control data is received is discriminated as the reply from a terminal equipment and the speed sending the control data is switched and sent repetitively until the the reply by the correct control data from the said terminal equipment comes. When the correct control data is received, the speed is maintained and the substantial processing is transited. Thus, the communication with plural terminal equipments 4, 5 with different speed is attained by having only to prepare a single line 11 between the communication controller 2 and the LAN 3.
