PURPOSE:To convert only a desired part to a KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary) character, even if a character-string containing a KANA (Japanese syllabary) notation part is inputted continuously, and converted to a KATAKANA, and to improve the operability, by providing an adjunct processing part and a KATAKANA conversion processing part, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a character-string is inputted, its reading information is all converted to a KATAKANA through a reading buffer 11, a reading setting processing part 12 and a KATAKANA conversion processing part 13 and stored in a homonym buffer 16. Subsequently, the processing part 12 shortens the reading information in the buffer 11 by parting one character from the rear, and sends out its rear character to a homonym processing part 14. The processing part 14 attempts to interpret as an adjunct by referring to an adjunct table 15, etc., and in case it is successful, the front character part parted by the processing part 12 is sent to the processing part 13 and converted to a KATAKANA, and one character which has succeeded in the interpretation of the rear remains a KANA. Subsequently, a KATAKANA converted part and a KANA part are connected and stored in the buffer 16, and next, the same processing is repeated, by which only the desired part can be converted to a KATAKANA character, and the operability can be improved.
