PURPOSE:To smoothly and easily cut a section by forming a cut around an optical fiber strand while applying a tension to the optical fiber strand to cut the optical fiber strand. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber strand 60 is kept in the tension applied state by the first coiled spring 32. When a cutting member 22 is moved left, the fiber strand 60 is interposed between cutting edges 62 of two cutters 50 to form cuts on the outside of the fiber strand 60. Since the tension is applied to the fiber strand 60, the fiber strand 60 is cut with minimum cuts. In the case of cutting, cutters 60 are turned with pins 46 as fulcrums to be free. Thus, cutters 50 are uniformly brought into contact with the fiber strand 60 to avoid the unevenness of cutting due to the off-center state, and a uniform and satisfactory section is obtained. |
