PURPOSE:To avoid the influence of a defect and to reproduce the information contained in a recording medium with no error, by storing the necessary information when a defect of a recording medium is detected and controlling a reproduction means based on the stored information before the area where the same defect occurs is reproduced next. CONSTITUTION:The present signal reproducing position of a recording medium 1 is detected by a recording medium recognizing means 5 and a position detecting means 6. A control value detecting means 10 connects the outputs of a control means to detect the type of the control value of the control means. A defect occurrence memory means 7 stores the information to recognize individually the medium 1, the position where the defect occurred and the type of the control value of the control means which controls the means 2 in order to avoid the influence of the defect of the medium 1. Then, the means 2 is controlled based on the stored information before the position where the defect of the medium 1 is reproduced. Thus, the influence of the defect can be avoided.
