PURPOSE:To considerably reduce the dead space to improve the image quality by dividing a second transparent plate, which and a first transparent plate a liquid crystal layer is interposed between, into small transparent glass plate groups and forming an array of plural transparent picture element electrode groups on each small transparent glass plate in the breadthwise direction of a display screen and laminating small transparent glass plate groups while interposing flexible printed circuit boards, on which wiring patterns connected to said transparent picture element electrode groups are formed, between them. CONSTITUTION:The second transparent glass plate 2 is divided into small transparent glass plate groups 21, 22, 23-, and arrays of transparent picture element electrode groups 4ij are formed on respective small transparent glass plates 21, 22, and 23- in the first direction in a two-dimensional plate, and small transparent glass plate groups are arranged in the second directions orthogonal to the first direction in the two-dimensional plane while interposing flexible printed circuit boards 51, 52, 53-, on which wiring patterns 6ij connected to said transparent picture element electrode groups 4ij are formed, between them. Thus, the space for wiring is formed in the direction orthogonal to the display screen, and the dead space is reduced to improve the image quality.
