PURPOSE:To obtain the wound core, having the prescribed cross-section shape, on a reel-up jig by providing a means for measuring thickness and length, an accumulated thickness computing means for every prescribed length, a means by which the slitted width can be controlled in accordance with the accumulated thickness, a means for comparison of the accumulated thickness and a prescribed value, and a means for repeating operation cycle when the prescribed thickness is obtained. CONSTITUTION:A material 12 and a spool 15 are rotated by closing a switch 18, the length L is worked out by means of an odometer 17, and a RAM 194 is housed. The thickness of said material is measured (16) for every prescribed period, the L is read out from the RAM, and when L>L0 (prescribed length) is obtained, the calculated value L is cleared. The output of the thickness meter 16 is A/D converted, and when the accumulated thickness T reaches the prescribed value tR, the T is cleared. A slitting width is calculated by interpolation from the prescribed curve of slitting of a ROM 193 using the T, the slitting width is computed, and the position of a blade is changed. A slitting width controlling operation is performed for every thickness tR. Accordingly, a stepped wound core and the belt material to be used for circular cross-section shape wound core can be formed successively, and when this belt material is wound on the reel-up jig, the shape of desired cross-section can be obtained accurately.
