An optical information disc, where information can be optically recorded and read, comprises a substrate having an ablative recording layer of Tex. Sey. Sbz. Sq on at least one size; where x=55-85 at.%; y/13-30 at.%; z/1-12 at.%; q/0-10 at.%, and x+y+z+q/100%. In a pref. embodiment, y=a, x + 1.5 (z-q); where a= 0.15-0.30. The layer prepf. has the compsn. Te60 Se25 Sb10 S5; or Te75 Se15 Sb10; or Te75 Se15 Sb5 S5. The layer has high sensitivity, e.g. threshold 0.50/nJ/ pulse, compared with 0.8nJ/pulse conventional, and high stability, e.g. average daily increase in bit error rate in life tests 2x10power -7 compared with 5x10 power -7 conventional.
