PURPOSE:To obtain thermally sterilized blood powder without impairing gel strength thereof, by dried blood components having a controlled moisture content with superheated steam. CONSTITUTION:Blood plasma or blood serum or both obtained from animal blood are kept at <=50 deg.C material temperature, dried, pulverized to preferably <=60 mesh particle size and provide dried blood components having 3-12wt.% initial moisture content and gel strength. Superheated steam at 120-180 deg.C is subsequently brought into contact with the above-mentioned dried blood components and complete contact state of the superheated steam with the dried blood components is maintained for 5-20sec. The dried blood components are separated from the superheated steam and then directly cooled to <=110 deg.C. |
