<p>Continuous status monitoring of a plurality of switches and smart sensors (14-14) associated with the switches (16-16), wherein each sensor (14) is connected to a separate single point on a single-wire bus (44) is affected by a smart sensor multiplex arrangement. The multiplex arrangement employs a microcomputer (20) and a driver and receiver circuit (18) for developing a particular pulse train waveform, which is placed on the bus to provide power and control voltage signals to the plurality of smart sensors (14-14). The smart sensors (14-14) contain circuits that respond to the waveform in a manner that causes each smart sensor (14) to send current signals back over the single wire bus (44) to the driver and receiver circuit (18) and the microcomputer (20) during designated repetitive and sequential time slots. The driver and receiver circuit (18) receives, interprets and converts the current signals into voltage signals used by the microcomputer (20) for establishing a history of the status of the bus (44), the sensors (14-14) and the switches (16-16). The microcomputer (20) supplies continuous and updated information to a display system indicative of the status of each sensor (14) and its associated switch (16).</p> |
