PURPOSE:To develop the title masking material having excellent printability, heat resistance, tight adhesion, etc., by mixing a cellulose thickener, its solvent, and nonadsorptive inorg. powder at the time of forming a decorative thin film on the surface of a base material with a vacuum film forming method. CONSTITUTION:When the thin film is formed for the purpose of decoration on the base material of ceramics, enamel, glass, etc., a pattern is printed on the base material with a pasty masking material, a decorative thin film is formed on the pattern, and the masking material is released. As the masking material to be used in this case, 0.1-30wt% cellulose thickener of acetyl cellulose, etc., having <=200 deg.C softening point, 30-90wt% solvent for the cellulose such as methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, and actone, and 0.1-70wt% shielding material consisting of the nonadsorptive inorg. powder of the metal oxides such as Al2O3, SiO2, and TiO2 or ceramics having <=10mum mean particle diameter are mixed to prepare the pasty masking material for forming a decorative thin film.
