PURPOSE:To obtain a device with high accuracy and to reduce cost, by correcting a correction data bit by bit corresponding to the polarity of a tracking error, and performing correction by thinning out a correction interval when a tape is fed at a speed lower than prescribed speed. CONSTITUTION:A tracking error signal detected by using a bimorph plate, the reference value of which corresponding to a track center being subtracted at a subtractor 2, is supplied to a filter 3 having a CPU. And corresponding to a positive or a negative data, the correction data is added or subtracted bit by bit at every track, and head height can be corrected by a step of one bit. The correction data of the filter 3 is added on a lamp waveform synchronized with the tape speed of a lamp generator 5 at an adder 4. And the CPU performs the correction thinning out the track when the tape speed is less than the prescribed speed. In such a way, it is possible to improve the accuracy of tracking and to reduce the cost.
