PURPOSE:To obtain a sliding device which can be used in a high speed, high load and oilless condition, by forming one of the sliding members by a ceramics- solid lubricant compound material comprising a ceramic matrix phase and a solid lubricant phase which contain a common element. CONSTITUTION:A bearing metal 10 is forced to be press inserted to the inside of a housing 11, and a shaft 12 is rotably supported to an internal surface of the bearing metal 10. The bearing metal 10 is formed by a silicone carbide- graphite compound material using silicone carbide as the matrix forming ceramics and graphite of similar carbon system as the solid lubricant. By this constitution such as in the above, operation can be performed in a oilless condition because of lubricating action by the graphite.
