Apparatus for the automatic chemical analysis of samples comprises turntable 10 having positions 14 around its periphery for the reception of sample vessel holders 12, each position including a device for releasably securing a sample vessel holder, and conveyors 33, 44 operating in synchronism with the turntable for feeding sample vessel holders to successive securing devices and for removing sample vessel holders from successive securing devices. The sample vessel holder securing device may comprise a spring-loaded ball (28) carried by the turntable for engagement with an aperture (32) in the base of the holder when the holder is in position on the turntable (Figure 2 not shown). Conveyor 33 has upwardly projecting pins 38, 40 which engage the outer surface 42 of each holder to move it towards and on to the turntable. Conveyor 44 has pins 50, 52 which engage grooves 54, 56 in the holder being withdrawn from the turntable and move this holder outwardly, so pushing away holders already removed from the turntable towards a signal device 60. Movement of the conveyors is controlled by actuation of micro-switches arranged below the turntable and actuated by cams turning with the turntable. |
