PRODUCTION OF TROPANE BASED ALKALOID

PURPOSE:To enhance productivity of tropane based alkaloid, by cultivating a plant having tropane based alkaloid-producing ability in a culture medium containing added abscisic acid and/or an anticytokinin substance. CONSTITUTION:A culture medium is prepared by adding plant hormones other than abscisic acid and vitamins and further as necessary amino acids to ingredients containing an inorganic ingredient and carbon source as necessary ingredient and further abscisic acid and/or an anticytokinin substance as essential ingredient. A plant tissure having tropane based alkaloid-producing ability is cultivated in the culture medium prepared above and the aimed tropane based alkaloid is isolated and purified from the culture medium. The plant includes e.g. plant of the genus Duboisia, Datura or Scopolia.
