PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-resisting composite material for supporting member withstanding use over a long period in a heating furnace, by mixing an aspherical ceramics powder, composed principally of oxide, having low thermal conductivity at high temp. with a powder of metal or alloy in a specific proportion and by subjecting the resulting powder mixture to sintering. CONSTITUTION:The aspherical ceramics powder is mixed with the metal or alloy powder by 55-80vol% based on the above metal or alloy powder. This ceramics is principally composed of oxidic ceramics having thermal conductivity one-tenth that of the above metal or alloy or less at a temp. as high as >=1,000 deg.C. Moreover, as to the shape of this aspherical ceramics powder, it is desirable that the average value of particle-shape factor Z represented by Z=C<2>/12.6A, where A and C mean projected area and the peripheral length of a projected part, respectively, is regulated to >=1.25 and it is also desirable that, when the above powder is taken as a spherical powder of the same volume, the average grain size of this spherical powder is regulated to >=1mm. The above powder mixture is compacted and then subjected to hot isostatic pressing so as to be formed into a dense sintered compact. In this way, the heat- resisting composite material excellent in thermal shock resistance, pitting resistance, and heat-insulating property can be obtained.
