Extrusion-blow apparatus comprises at least one extruder, the nozzles of which are driven along an endless path, preferably circular, and a plurality of moulds adjacent the path. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, extruders 7, 7<SP>1</SP> having nozzles 32 are mounted on a turntable 1 rotatable in direction E, moulds 10 being supported on a platform 9 in a central orifice in the turntable. An electric motor 2 drives the turntable 1 by means of gear 5 meshing with teeth 8 on the internal edge of the turntable. By means of gears 12-15, it also drives a shaft 11 having a co-rotating sleeve 17 driven by longitudinal keys 16 and carrying platforms 18, 118 which support cam rings 19, 119 to operate mould unit 10 and mandrel unit 25 respectively. Mould halves are mounted on platens 24, 24a opened and closed by rack and pinion arrangement 33, 34, 33a via plates 22 and follower arm 21 displaced by cam 19. The mould units 10 and platform 9 may be vertically reciprocable by means of piston 30 of cylinder 31 to receive extrudate and retract out of the way of the continuous extrusion for blowing. Mandrel unit 25 having blowing nozzle 26 mounted on the assembly of mould unit 10, is horizontally reciprocable by means of rod 28 sliding in sleeve 27 by means of cam 119 and follower 121 and is vertically reciprocable by hydraulic cylinder 25 for blowing the extruded parison and withdrawal from the path of the extruders. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), mould units (61) are spaced around the rotating extruders (58) and the extruders may be pivotable about input shafts (57, Fig. 4) or rod (66, Fig. 5) and may be longitudinally extensible for use with different moulds. |
