<p>Insulating material for feeder and chill-top linings, useful for delaying solidification of metal, particularly steel, consists of ceramic refractory expanded hollow spheres, pref. of corundum, bonded (with pref. 5-35 wt. %) inorganic and/or organic binders, advantageously not releasing gases, pref. high alumina cement, Al phosphate or Al chrome phosphate, refractory clay, or organic binders such as phenol-HCHO resins, hardening oils, starch optionally combined with clay. Density of composition is pref. adjusted to required insulating effect by replacing up to 75 wt.% expanded granulate with refractories such as granular burned fire clay, MgO, olivine or SiO2 (whereby density is raised and insulation diminished).</p> |
