PURPOSE:To perform continued long-time operation by the limited capacity of a power source, by starting a transmitter only when the presence of a sound source to be searched for is detected. CONSTITUTION:The sound signal picked up by a microphone 1 is inputted to an analyzer 2 which in turn extracts the frequency spectrum distribution of said sound signal to compare the same with the data of the sound spectrum of a submarine of every type preliminarily stored in a memory apparatus 3. When said spectrum distribution coincides with either one of the stored signals as the result of comparison, a transmission apparatus 4 is driven and a radio wave wherein data showing the type of the submarine emitting the signal detected by the microphone 1 or the magnitude of the distance of said submarine judged from the input level to the microphone 1 is superposed is sent out from an antenna 5. The radio wave thus sent out is received by the receiver 6 arranged to an airplane or ship and the presence of an object emitting a sound source to be searched for, that is, a submarine in the vicinity of the sonobuoy concerned can be known. By this method, continued long-time operation can be performed by the limited capacity of a power source.
