PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a measuring operation and to enable the automation thereof, by measuring a ring-shaped object with a rotary device rotated in synchronization with a measuring mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A measuring device 16 is set on a T frame 100 and initial values are inputted from a keyboard 41, whereby measurement is started. Signals from sensors 21-27 are in a standby state in a signal conversion unit at this point of time, and the data thereof are read by a personal computer 4 in response to a start instruction, computation is made from initial data, and thereby numerical value data for measurement are obtained. A rotary device 1 is thence driven to rotate the frame 100, and an encoder 28 in contact with the frame 100 makes counting and delivers pulses. The personal computer 4 reads these pulses sequentially, compares same with the numerical value data of a specified outer circumference calculated from the diameter of a circle of an initial input, reads measured distance data from a measuring unit 3 at the time point whereat synchronization is obtained, and executes further a measuring process. The read data are turned into measured data sequentially by computation from the initial values.
