PURPOSE:To read a picture automatically accurately and to attain print-out, for example, without missing by controlling the picture processing operation in response to character information or code information of a specific area in a picture. CONSTITUTION:An area of each paper size described with a drawing number is read, its information is subject to character recognition, the paper size of the picture is detected, whether or not the character is registered is checked to control the picture read range accordingly. Moreover, the recording paper size of a printer 20 or an output magnification is selected depending on the picture size. Thus, the picture is read automatically accurately and a print-out output without missing of the picture is obtained.
