PURPOSE:To make it possible to take data finely at a spot of sharp change in the shape of the surface of a model and roughly at a spot gentle change in said shape and thereby to dispense with a troublesome operation, by constructing a digitizing system of a displacement detecting means, a speed reducing means, a position detecting means and a sampling means. CONSTITUTION:A displacement detecting means 4 scans along the surface of a model to detect the displacement of the shape of the surface from a tangent plane per unit time, and a speed reducing means 2 reduces the speed of scanning in accordance with the dimensions of this displacement. A position detecting means 3 detects the position coordinates of scanning, and a sampling means 1 samples these position coordinates every fixed time set beforehand and outputs same as digitizing data. Since the speed of scanning of the surface of the model is reduced in accordance with the amplitude of a change in the shape thereof by this system, the position coordinates are outputted at a fine distance interval at a spot of sharp change in the shape of the surface of the model.
