PURPOSE:To enable a printing of plural times using the same thermal transfer sheet by employing a speed difference method, by providing a fine-porous layer on a substrate to impregnate a thermo-transfer ink therein. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 2 provided with a fine-porous layer on one surface thereof and a means 1 impregnating a thermo-transfer ink in the fine-porous layer of the substrate are provided. The substrate 2 and a paper to be subjected to transfer 4 are held between a thermal head 3 and a platen 5. Due to the heat applied from the thermal head, the thermo-transfer ink impregnated in the fine-porous layer of the substrate is transferred to the paper to be subjected to transfer to form an image thereon. The gradual transfer of the thermo- transfer ink in the fine-porous layer allows a printing to be conducted plural times by utilizing the speed difference generated by setting the advance speed of the substrate lower than the feed speed of the paper to be subjected to transfer. On the other hand, the fine porous layer is formed on the substrate by a method in which a heat-resistant resin is dissolved in a mixed solvent of a volatile solvent and a low-volatility solvent to be coated on the substrate and, thereafter, the solvent is evaporated.
