PURPOSE:To obtain a herbicide for paddy field having excellent herbicidal activity, selectivity between weeds and gramineous crops, low phytotoxicity, rapid action, extended application period, etc., by using a specific oxabicycloalkane derivative as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective herbicide for paddy field contains oxabicycloalkanes of formula (R is <=14C substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group or aryl or 3-10C alicyclic group which may be substituted with 1-3C alkyl) as an active component. The herbicide has excellent properties to enable selective killing of a wide variety of weeds in paddy field, such as cyperaceous weeds (e.g. cockspur-grass), broad-leaved weeds (e.g. monochoria), perennial weeds (e.g. slender spikerush), etc., absolutely without causing phytotoxicity to gramineous crops. The herbicide can be applied to a paddy field before or after transplantation of rice plant, however, it is applied preferably 1-15 days after the transplantation.
