PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a recording layer and to improve the corrosion resistance and durability of a medium by providing an intermediate layer contg. specific compds. to said medium. CONSTITUTION:The titled medium 1 is provided with the intermediate layer 4 and a thin magnetic film layer 5 as the recording layer on a substrate 2 and is provided with protective layers 31, 35 between the substrate 2 and the layer 4 and/or on the layer 5. The layer 4 contains >=1 kinds of the oxides of rare earth elements, silicon oxide and silicon nitride. The above-mentioned rare earth elements may be any of Sc, Y, La-Sm, Eu-Lu; >=1 kinds of La and Ce are more preferably incorporated into the intermediate layer. The refractive index at 800nm of the layer 4 is preferably 1.8-3.0. The effect of amplifying the angle of Kerr rotation is small and the output decreases if the refractive index is <1.8. The output decreases and noise increases when the refractive index exceeds 3.0. |
