The invention relates to a process for the catalytic epoxidation of olefins using hydrogen peroxide in a homogeneous phase or in a two-phase system in the presence of mu -oxo[Mo-oxo-(5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrine)]2, of trans-diperoxomolybdenum(VI)-5,10,15-20-tetraphenylporphyrine or of a cis-dioxo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinatomolybdenum(VI) complex, where in each case hydrogen atoms on the phenyl groups are mono-or polysubstituted by radicals such as halogen, hydroxyl, carboxyl, cyano, rhodano, nitro or C1-C6-alkyl.
