PURPOSE:To reduce the distortion of a transmission image by interposing a material which has nearly the same refractive index that a polarizer has between a transparent substrate and the polarizer with good contactness. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 6 which varies in light transmissivity by the impression of an electric field is provided between a couple of transparent substrates and the polarizer which selects linear polarized light is arranged on the side of at least one transparent substrate. Then adhesives 3a and 3b, and 3c and 3d which have nearly the same refractive indexes that polarizing films 4a and 4b are interposed between the polarizing film 4a and glass plates 1a and 5a, and polarizing film 4b and glass plates 5b and 1b with good airtightness. The birefringence of light due to a difference in refractive index is reduced and projections and recesses of the surfaces of the polarizing films are filled with the adhesives, so the uneven shapes are eliminated substantially to reduce the scattering of light. Consequently, the distortion of the transmission image which is seen through a liquid crystal sun visor can be reduced.
