PURPOSE:To obtain a cell of a low voltage at the open terminal, and of an excellent plainness of discharge voltage, by including iodine ions (I<->) in the electrolyte ions. CONSTITUTION:In a cell in which an active carbon positive electrode consisting mainly of noncrystalline structures, and a metallic negative electrode are soaked in an organic solvent solution in which an electrolyte is dissolved, a solution including iodine ions (I<->) is used as the electrolyte. Such a secondary cell can be made in a small size, a light weight, and a thin type easily, and the energy density can be increased. Moreover, the cycle stability and the electric charge efficiency of this secondary cell are excellent as follows: When the ion absorbing and releasing rate is 1 mol% per carbon atom, a cycle charge and discharge 200 rounds or more are adaptable at the efficiency as high as 97 to 100 %. Moreover, even when the ion absorbing and releasing rate is raised up to 6 mol%, the cycle charge and discharge 200 rounds or more are available at the efficiency 95 to 99 %. |
