A method in which an end value T0 of a convergent oscillation period of a vibrating tube of an oscillating araeometer is pre-estimated by measuring an oscillation period T at time t, the time measurement beginning when the introduction of a liquid into the vibrating tube is finished, the oscillation period is substituted in an equation <IMAGE> where tT is a constant which is determined on the basis of the type of the liquid and tau T is a time constant which is determined on the basis of the initial temperature of the liquid, and the method of least squares is used to determine the value of T0 and the constant tau T.
