In a known circuit for reducing cross-colour, the signal components of the luminance signal which are within the frequency range of the colour subcarrier are subtracted from the luminance signal in dependence on the current picture content. This makes it possible to suppress any crosstalk when the picture content is at rest. This measure fails, however, when the picture content moves, thus causing cross-colour and trailing to occur. The new circuit is intended to provide for motion-adaptive control of the signal components located within the colour subcarrier range. A control signal derived from the luminance signal by means of motion detection is supplied to a controllable amplifier which is connected in series with the band-pass filter passing the colour subcarrier range of the luminance signal. The output signal of the amplifier is subtracted from the luminance signal. The circuit can be used in the luminance channel of a colour television encoder.
