The storage, transportation and fitting of lagging mats for underground roadway lining is considerably simplified by using lagging mats without hooks formed on the head sides. These lagging mats are connected by providing folds and/or beads running in the longitudinal direction in the grid surface, a blocking element being inserted and fixed into the openings formed between the longitudinal and transverse bars running in two planes. This type of lagging mat is virtually no longer bound by the constructional spacing, i.e. such a mat can be used, in the same configuration, for various constructional spacings. Moreover, the stability of such mats is considerably improved and the connection made more secure and simple and enabling a continuous connected lining, even where lining platforms and roof screens which are prepared entirely on the latter and have connected mats are employed. <IMAGE>
