PERFUSION TYPE BALLOON DILATATION CATHETER AND APPARATUS

Perfusion-type balloon dilatation apparatus having a guiding catheter (12) with proximal and distal extremities (16, 17) and with a flow passage (18) extending therethrough. A balloon dilatation catheter (76) is disposed in the guiding catheter (12). The balloon dilatation catheter (76) is comprised of a flexible elongate tubular member (77) having proximal and distal extremities (78, 79) and having a first lumen (91) extending therethrough. First and second inflatable balloons (82, 83) are carried by the tubular member (77) and having their interiors (84, 87) in communication with the first lumen (81) in the tubular member (77). The first balloon (82) is positioned with the guiding catheter (12). The second balloon (83) is positioned adjacent the distal extremity (79) of the tubular member (77). A second lumen (91) is carried by the tubular member (77) and extends through the first and second balloons (82, 83) and through the distal extremity (79) of the tubular member (77). The second lumen (91) has an opening (92) proximal of the first balloon (82) and opens into the interior of the guiding catheter (12). An adapter (21) is carried by the proximal extremity (16) of the guiding catheter (12) and provides a liquid-tight seal between the guiding catheter (12) and the dilatation catheter (76) and also provides an inlet through which liquid can be introduced so that it can travel through the flow passage (18) in the guiding catheter (12) and into the second lumen (91) carried by the dilatation catheter (76) so that the liquid can flow through the second lumen (91) beyond the second inflatable balloon (83).
