PURPOSE:To prevent an engine from its overspeed when it is placed again in a power transmitting condition, by controlling speed ratio to a value just before the engine is cut from transmitting its power when transmission of the power is cut in a vehicle while it is in running at a car speed of the first preset value or more. CONSTITUTION:A control member 11, which adjusts the displacement of an oil hydraulic motor M, is connected to an actuator 12, and a control means C, which controls the action of the actuator 12, connects with a throttle opening sensor Sa, engine speed sensor Sb, car speed sensor Sc, clutch sensor Sd and a speed ratio detecting sensor Se. In a control of the actuator 12, speed ratio is controlled to the speed ratio just before transmission of power is cut off when a vehicle, while it is in running at a car speed of the first preset value V1 or more, cuts off the transmission of power. In this way, an engine E, when it is again placed in a power transmitting condition, enables an overspeed to be prevented from its generation.
