PURPOSE:To form the laminar distribution of mixed gas by forming a dense mixed gas region in the vicinity of a projection part in a piston cavity by jetting almost all the fuel towards the collision surface formed on the projection part. CONSTITUTION:A projecting part 13 is formed inside the cavity 12 of a piston 2, and a collision surface 14 is formed onto the projection part 13. Almost all the part of the fuel supplied from a fuel injection valve 16 installed on a cylinder head 3 is jetted toward the collision surface 14. Therefore, a mixed gas region having the more dense fuel density than that in other regions is formed on the periphery of the projection part 13, and an electrode 18 for spark which is positioned in the dense mixed gas region is installed onto the cylinder head 3. Therefore, even if fuel particles are dispersed in a skewish area 19 outside the cavity 12, the fuel particles are pushed back into the cavity 12 by the skewish flow, and generation of combustion in the skewish region 19 is suppressed, and generation of knocking caused by the end gas during combustion is suppressed.
